Defense attorney, Karl Hannum, and certified insurance counselor, Dean Schink, welcome you to The Cardiology Consortium. This value-added medical malpractice management program is designed specifically for the Michigan cardiology group practice. All cardiologists: general, echocardiography, invasive, interventional, EP and their staff deserve a program designed to address their specific needs. Using the demands and suggestions of cardiology specialists and their group administrators over the past 23 years of defense litigation, and extensive experience with numerous insurance companies, an expansive and unique program was designed specifically for the cardiology specialist.

Only the best cardiologists in Michigan will be asked to join The Cardiology Consortium. The program is underwritten by Star Insurance Company, a highly ranked market share company in Michigan with an A.M. Best rating of "A-". Star Insurance Company is a licensed and regulated carrier. This is not a "captive" or "offshore" program. Your policy will contain a consent provision so your case cannot be resolved with your written approval. The sometimes referred to "hammer clause" in some policies to force the physician to resolve the case will not be part of your policy.

By joining The Cardiology Consortium, you do not combine your business or share protected information with your consortium peers. Your group and each staff member will receive a separate policy. However, you will have the benefit of an opportunity to share in a dividend of 10% return of premium dollars if the premium qualification and loss ratio goals are accomplished.

As it is a program for cardiologists by cardiologists, we have formed a Director's Committee and each consortium member will designate a physician to join the Director's Committee. Practice administrators will be asked to join an Advisory and Implementation Committee. With such input, we look forward to designing seminars, risk management presentations and peer review services which will benefit the practice of Consortium members.

There are many more detail, and after reviewing the rest of the site, we invite you to contact us with any program questions you may have. We look forward to the honor of meeting with you.
